Prob with TM Nascar Pro Digital-Help

by Mike » Tue, 17 Jul 2001 07:39:07

I just bought a Tm Pro Digital USB. I am running Win Me and Dx8a. My problem
is I cannot get the Pro Digital to stay as Controller ID 1 where most racing
games like it (currently using Nascar 3). Any other controller bumps it out
of ID1. I cannot even get it to ID 1 with my MS FF Pro (gameport version)
hooked up. I've resorted to removing the other controllers. Any
suggestions??

Change the ID's using the "Controller ID's" tab.

Example, change the MS FF Pro from ID1 to ID3, then change the TM Pro from
ID2 to ID1. Really works.

Tried it. When using the MS FF it won't let me. Windows tells me the ID slot
is taken. When using other controllers I can switch but after a reboot
Windows switches the TM Pro to ID 2!!

Strange... must have something to do with the MSFF drivers needing the
controller on ID1 (lazy programming at Microsoft... whatever next? <g>)

The ID's resetting on reboot is something I experienced (Win98se) too. I
think there is an order in which Windows looks for game devices at startup.

On a side note:

Anyone here notice that with directx 8.0a and Win98, the *** options
screen takes forever to come up when the Pro Digital 1 is connected via USB?
I am using the basic Microsoft 3 axis 8 button setup and everything works
fine with directx 7.0a installed.  However, as soon as I upgrade to 8.0a,
the "*** options" screen (formerly "controller setup" in 7.0a) slows to a
crawl and takes about 30 seconds to open on the desktop (showing my wheel in
an OK state).  The connection works though (thankfully).  Its just that this
is very annoying.

Any help or similar incident reports would be appreciated.
