GP4 networked: no luck

GP4 networked: no luck

My config:

1) P4 2.4 GHz, WIN XP home, Force Feedback wheel USB
2) P4 1.? GHz, WIN Millennium, Microsoft joystick USB
3) 10 BaseT switched LAN, direct connection (one switch away)
4) TCP/IP or IPX
5) GP4 French edition (no copies) original and with the "protected" patch
6) Two human player, non-championship race (so far I have tried Hockeneim
and Melbourne)

The problem: GP4 crashes on one of the two machines (usually the slower but
once the same happened on the faster), usually at the end of the first lap.
No message, just the window that closes and the machine that drops back to
Windows. Sometimes a reboot is needed in order to restart the connection,
sometimes re-starting the interface suffices, sometimes GP4 works right away.

The "protected" patch was applied on both machines but had to be removed on
WIN XP due to incapability to use GP4 (jumping menus and no-go for the wheel).

Now, is there a trick or something to avoid the crash?

TIA,

one thing you can do is making sure you have absolutely identically
installations of gp4 on both machines. i understand you have the patch on
one machine and not on the other, that is dangerous.
for a two players game it should definitely work ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try several times with the original
unpatched on both machines and that's where the problems started...
The bug must be somewhere else. Nevertheless, I agree it is
better to revert to the original version on both machines.

Ciao,
