Yep.  If you've never seen a Conely engine in person, they really
are true works of art.  I get to see them every two or three years when I
go to the Chicago Model & Hobby Show.  Unfortunately, their not allowed to
run the motors in the exhibition hall.  Shame.
Yet another item for the "If I win the Lottery..." list.

Yeah... my neighbour bought one for his 3-year old son on his birthday. The
thing goes like the wind! Only thing is the poor kid keeps crapping his
pants - and he's three years old! Not exactly the best toy in the world for
someone that's trying to toilet-train a toddler.

Think my neighbour should just take the engine back out and use it for
sharpening his pencils - think the poor kid might appreciate it too!

That's nothing, there was this bloke on TV from Switzerland or France and he
built a 1/4 scale Ferrari 512 (the Le Mans job), exact in every
detail....pedals worked, gearbox worked, it even sounded like a Ferrari. I
also seem to remember a magazine article about a chap who built working 50's
GP models (Maserati 250F's, Ferrari 246's etc.)

I want one !!! - the Viper engine....now what can I sell?!!!! :-D

I saw that tv program about the Ferrari - amazing, the bloke had to mould
his own tyres, make the instruments _everything_ .... and then he sold it
!!!!

At an antique farm equipment show, some guy had this cool little engine
sitting there.  Neat I though, then I saw it said Cosworth on it.  The
entire engine was about 6" long complete with side-draft and header.  I
longingly asked him if he could run it and he said sure!  I figured it
would sound like a model airplane engine but boy was I wrong, it sounded a
lot like a modern day super bike.  Man, when he revved that thing up,
everyone in the barn was looking around trying to see where the screaming
motorcycle was.

Very cool, and he made it all himself.

I drove one in a parking lot one time, and it scared the shit out of
me...

I've never driven a car with _so_ much low-end torque before.  I owned
_many_ GTO's from the 60's, and the Viper eats them all alive.

A light touch is mandatory, and I couldn't even imagine driving one of
these things on a wet road, much less during a snowstorm :)
