We've lost the gearbox

Man, I was playing RBR on arizona, lost the gear box, and then was able to
coast down the rest of the mountain and finish the stage. I was hoping the
service park was next, but it wasnt. So the next stage started and the
gearbox was still busted but if you babied the throttle you could get the
wheels to catch and move the car. But if you pushed too hard it would slip
and you could barely get any power down. Awesome

And what fun is finishing a stage tediously like that?

I find it annoying if you retire through the menu that Country stage of
racing is totally over with. Why, when you retire, can't you simply get
to the next service port area skipping only that one course?

kc.rr.com:

When Rally drivers tear up their cars, they are done for the whole
rally.  If you can't get to a service point you can't continue.  I'm sure
the drivers would LOVE to be able to rip the car up at 100% attack and then
skip a stage to get it rebuilt.  There is more to rally than just tooling
down a dirt road.

that'd be the clutch slipping just so you know, not the tyres.

I managed to do that, freewheeling most of a stage in France, shifting
between 4th and 5th (in the Pug) with no throttle just to get that little
boost, got to the end of the stage "You cannot get to the service area and
have had to retire" or something like that.  It's nice to know the sim lets
you do it, but it really is utterly pointless :-)

cheers
