I love to race at Talladega, mainly cause I can win, but I don't like how the
AI's run.  I usually run at 102-103% strength and can win a long race due to
pit stops and traffic.  What I find is that unlike real restrictor plate
and drafting tracks, there is very little up close racing.  The lead cars take
off and leave the other 35 cars back about 10 sec. off the pace.  It doesn't
matter who is leading, #3, 24, 5, 6...(above average driver settings) or cars
with below average settings.
I can't catch the leaders under green unless they are in traffic, but once I do
catch them I take off and leave them behind.  How come I can't knock time off
my laps when I'm trailing, but once I'm in the lead then I can leave 'em behind?
It seems very unrealistic that at 103% all of the cars run with in 10 sec of
each other except for the lead cars who run 10-20 secs apart from the others.
I tried to edit the drivers text and make every one equal with the same range
of numbers, but on the track the qualifying times were close but the field
still didn't stay together.
Is there a way to make close nose to tail racing here like the rule change of
changing the compression ratio like we all saw at Daytona Sunday?  I think it
would make Talladega more exciting to race and be more challanging.  I know
there is a glitch that doesn't allow AI to pass and hopefully that will change
in the next NASCAR edition, but for now is there a way to tighten up the
competition?

Edit the drivers2.txt file. The number pairs before each driver
indicate their strength, traction, drag and aggressiveness
respectively.

Make the numbers closer together between each driver and you
will a closer race on your hand at every track.

Aggressiveness has nothing to say when it comes to lap times,
it only decides how willing the AI to let you pass.

Take a look at *drivers.txt* (not drivers2.txt) for more details.

Good luck!

Eric,

Very good concerns pointed out here.  All things that have been noticed by
me.  I hope someday we can get the AI as competitive here at Talla as they
are a say, Richmond.

As for a way to tighten the field.  Sorry can't help there either.  But I
will say this, it's not only there that it happens, it's a common trait
for all Papyrus racing sims I have found.  They race hard ahead of you,
but get around them and you'll leave em' in the dust every time... NASCAR,
Indycar, no matter.   That's been my experience.  A bit more noticeable at
Talladega though due to the wide open racing....

Good luck

I remember the same thing happening in the original Indianapolis 500 Sim
too!  At least they are being consistant!  The only time they can catch
up to me is when my tires start to go and their's don't.
