OT: Overclock my old/new computer

by Ryan » Fri, 25 May 2001 02:29:53

Hi,
My parents gave me a new computer for my high school graduation, but it is
kinda old.  It is a Celeron 366, so because I can't afford a new computer on
my own, I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience overclocking
this processor.  I am thinking of bumping up the FSB speed to 83 MHz to pick
up speed and maintain stability.  Any suggestions??  I think that at 83 MHz,
the clock speed would be about 456 MHz, which would probably be plenty for
me.  Also, my BIOS does not have any settings for FSB speed, so are there
any software utilities I can use?  Do I also need to change any jumper
setting on my motherboard?

Thanks for any help,
Ryan

Ryan,

I have never had a Celeron system so I have no advice for you on that,
But
perhaps you would get a better response if you posted this message in a
group dedicated to you're motherboard. If you know what brand motherboard
you have try finding a group for it such as

alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus
alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.epox
ect ect

Best of luck to you :)

Ryan,
it depends on your motherboard. Look up your manual for the appropriate jumpers.

I for one used to have a Celeron 366 and could run it at an FSB clock of 100
MHz,
equals 550 MHz. Maybe you need to boost the core voltage a little. Cooling the
CPU
properly is an issue too. There are many hardware sites around that deal with
overclocking,
like http://www.tomshardware.com.
I also recommend the Usenet forum alt.comp.hardware.overclocking.
Good luck,

Manfred
