Is it me? Or is it CPR? Help!

by Mark Vogelgesan » Wed, 06 May 1998 04:00:00

I have been racing on the CPR trial version a lot. I don't
think I am extremely fast, but I can make lap times between
1:10 and 1:12 consistently. I don't spin, and I don't crash.
At least not too often...

Last week, I bought the full version. I install it and try
to race. Now I cannot even finish a single lap without
losing the car. The car is completely uncontrollable. I use
the same setup, race the same track (Laguna Seca), but
nothing works anymore.

I go back to the trial version, and there is no problem. The
car handles okay, and I can do my usual lap times. On the
full version, I cannot finish a single lap without spinning,
crashing, or going off the track.

I have installed the patch, I have callibrated the wheel a
million times (I use a GP1), I have tried every possible
setting for the wheel...

Can anybody help me??

I don't know what is wrong, but here is what I think: in the
full version, the wheel seems to work like a joystick. If I
turn the wheel a little bit, the car doesn't react. If I
turn the wheel some more, the car reacts ***ly. It's the
same with the throttle and the brake. First, nothing
happens, and suddenly, the tires scream. The result: it's
impossible to control the car.

CPR seems to think that I use a joystick! But I have
configured the wheel as a race car controller, and not as a
joystick! The trial version recognises the wheel, but the
full version doesn't.

Can anybody tell me what I is wrong? Is there a way to fix
this?  Or should I simply return CPR and play F1RS?

That's why I went back to playing CART Racing (icr2). CPR has no car
control.

Marc, a few people have had the same problem, but it *is* solvable. I can't
remember exactly what did the trick, but there are a number of things to
check. Go to the "Tips" section of my web site and check the "Useful Tips":

http://members.home.net/getzen/

Also, be sure to exactly follow the instructions in the CPR ReadMe for
setting up your controller.

see if there is anything else I can think of. Again, the problem is
solvable.

There are three levels of difficulties in CPR: Rookie, Intermediate, and
Professional.
Intermediate and Professional settings offer much less grip than Rookie.
You may have selected either one of them by mistake.  You can play around
with the null zone, non-linear, and sensitivity settings to your desired
liking for your wheel.
