The Cosworth was not ready until a few races into the season from what I
understand, Lotus used the BRM engine before the DFV was unleashed

I think youve got you facts a little crossed.  It was 66 when Clark used the
BRM engine.  For a while he used the BRM H-16 (like the one in the BRM P115 in
GPL) and won the only race that engine ever won...the 1966 USGP at Watkins
Glen.

Well as I understand it Lotus was powered by the BRM H-16 at Kyalami in 67.....I
don't believe it was until Zandvoort that the Cosworth was used.

In 1967 Clark and Hill used the Lotus 43 powered by the BRM H16 engine at
Kyalami. At the next race, Monaco, Clark used the Lotus 33 with Climax
engine, and Hill the Lotus BRM. For the next race at Zandvoort, both had the
Lotus 49. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Steve is absolutely right [as far as I know ;-) ].

Those F1 years where quite confusing, because the combinations of teams, cars, engines and
drivers changed quite often. E.g. Bruce McLaren missed the first race, then he started a
few times on a McLaren-BRM, changed to Eagle-Weslake, and finally changed back to his
McLaren. Or the Brabham BT24 wasn't used from the beginning of the season. Brabham und
Hulme drove the BT19 and BT20 in the first three races, the BT24 was first used at Spa by
Jack Brabham.

And so on...
If you want to know more, take a look at http://www.forix.com, a really great site with
any statistics you need.

Have fun
