Anyone here done the "self-drive" at the Nurburgring?  What would be the
best time (month) to do it?  Thanks.

Since 92 I've done about 200 laps on bikes on the Nordschleife and it's a
great experience. Check out http://www.nuerburgring.de/ to find out when the
Ring is open. (-Angebote-selber fahren)

When I went it was late on sunday afternoon/evening so it wasn't too busy,
although still a lot of traffic to both hold you up (and I was in a car with
only 54 bhp), and much quicker traffic (mainly bikes) for which you tend to
drift wide for to let them through.

Oh and a rear-ended porsche halfway accross the track just over the blind
brow coming out of Wipperman down to Eschbach!

Just remember to brake hard and early for Adenauer Forst (the bit after the
downhill/uphill s-bends of Fuchsrohre) as it tightens up a lot more than you
think (more than GPL) and you can't really see how much 'till you're in it
(by which time its probably too late, and everyone at the viewing point will
laugh as you bounce over the kerb and across the worn away patch off grass)

On weekends there are huge loads of busses crawling around the ring.
So also alotta stupid sunday-between-lunch-and-tea-tourists. Usually
very crowdy.
During week very nice, but sometimes test drivers, mostely for tires.
They drive like hell - get outa their way.
