<slightly OT> LWFF - Anybody else with bent motor-spindle?

Hi all,
Just trying ro figure out, how many of the Logis have the bent motor-spindle
(comes from careless assembly in the factory).

Test as following:
plug of the power.
turn the wheel - If you feel ANY notches, your motor-spindle is bent.

For investigation (and some tough particular mails to Logitech support) check
out the origin of your wheel (sticker beneath the wheel-unit)

I approached Logitech support and they only mailed bach the standard-blabla. I
mailed again and didn't get an answer at all. IMO they have to improve their
support  immediately.

In this circumstances congratulation to ACTlabs and thanks to Raymond, that's
how it should be.

I returned my first LWFF for a refund because it was notchy, and now I have
a second unit from a different supplier (trying to avoid getting another from
the same batch).

The new one is also notchy, but not quite as bad as the first. However it has
more play, and feels really sloppy and poorly constructed. Both were made in China.
I'm not happy, I think I will return it and get the Force RS.

I reported the first problem to Logitech tech support, and eventually they
responded saying it might be defective and I should return it. Perhaps they
are waking up to the problem?

BTW, I can't find a setting for the core.ini parameters that I'm happy with.
I tried Slot's suggestion, but this just amplifies effects like grass and kerbs
to a ridiculous extent while almost eliminating the feel of the tyres on the
track. So I am back to a setting similar to Alison's, but the problem now is
that when the steering loads up at speed the "stiction" from the notchiness makes
small corrections impossible.

Mine is very likely to be bent. It notches 'nicely'. Although I have to
admit it is not that bad because it does not really make the wheel worse
than it already was. But definitely bent and made in China. It's actually a
replacement of my first wheel that had too much play.

(p.s. I posted my opinion in the LW-bulletin board, but its was gone the day
after I posted it)

They all have a little notchiness dont they. Are you saying that if it isnt perfectly smooth that the spindle is bent?
My main prob with the wheel is with damping forces. If the damping is high you can feel the motor running in the wheel . If we had the ability to adjust deadband setting though it could be fixed!

Antony, have you tried setting torque to about 300 and damping to around
600? These are in the parameters of the GPL text1.1 file and I've also
recommended giving them a try several times. The settings I use give me good
road feel on the Ferrari and Force RS, but these motors are more powerful
than the Logi's motor. I've also found that turning damping up in the
controller panel adds stiffness to the wheel for those who like it and
hardly interferes with subtle road feel. Just a thought. Doesn't cost any
thing to try it ;)

Ronnie,
After I grinded the cylinder on my motor round, there is no more notch at all
(when switched off).
On power I can feel the magnets, which is a totally different feeling.

thanks you sir! My china wheel's spindle isnt bent!!!! WOW lol. do you guys
feel the motor running when the damper forces are set highg in games like N3
particularly! ????
