SHUT UP AT THE BACK - yes - that means you Dave

Following on from my Momo mod idea...

http://www.racesimcentral.net/~djelliso/cf_momo.jpg

Thats the very first one - the next one's going to be a lot better I think.

You have to loose the round plastic 'grommits' around each button - but I
only found that out after the first one - so the holes are a little large.
Prototype 2 (which will be the one I keep) will have smaller holes - thus
will be a nice proper fit round each button.

That carbon fibre was as promised - a bit of a *** to work with - but I
got round it with a bit of carefull thinking - final result = the front is
flawless - the back is a bit knackered in places - but you're a) never gonna
know  and b) it's actually not THAT bad - just a bit like drilling thru a
softwood with splinters etc

I'm not sure if I'm gonna make a guide on how to do it - or if I get loads
of requests for them - I might start making them at 15 a piece.

Depending on the complexity - I'm considering doing the paddle-shifts as
well

Got 2 more to make with the 2 other bits of CF I have - then I'm gonna rip
the *** apart and look at making gear paddles from genuine 3 layer CF
instead of this 7 layer CF FG FG FG FG FG CF sandwich (not having to be
structurally sound - the sandwich was the obvious soloution)

Cool.
If you just want the look of carbon fiber, but what to keep the wheel
intact, you can get a pretty realistic looking sticker sheet for 10
bucks. It's thin enough to let you keep the grommets around the
buttons for a more finished look.

Personally, I'm OK with the wheel, I want to do something with the
crappy looking red base.

A MOMO decal would be nice, too.  If you can't find any, you can buy Ferrari
decals from Speedgear.com.  Same idea...more or less.

I'm thinking spray it black - then using thin strips of masking tape make a
criss cross pattern across the whole thing - and a light coat of a lighter
grey - then a varnish coat.

Carbon fibre look :D

I know.

On a more realistic note - I'm going to go for a granite like dark bluey
grey for my Momo's housing to match my Speed 7 Pedals

The sign shop down my street has vinly that has a Carbon Fibre print on it..
it looks pretty awesome, until you look really close since it doesn't
reflect the light like carbon fibre does. But I mean, you could get the
vinyl for a $1 I'm sure.

Either way.. it's cool that you did that. I'm a huge fan of people taking
apart products and making them the way they wanted them to be made.
