This weekend:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Is anyone coming down here for this?  I'll be helping with one of the
sponsor tents one of the days and would love to hook up with some
people.

Wish I had known about it sooner, I would have tried to arrange a GPL
simulator.

Wish I'd known, too (but it's my birthday - my kids woulda killed me).  The
PVGP is a great venue and usually a great event.  There are always several
times more Corvette Grand Sports on the grid than Chevrolet ever thought of
producing (including some absolutely dead-accurate replicas).  Enjoy.

There's always next year. =)

I've unfortunately had to miss the last 5 years of events because of
work obligations, but I'm really looking forward to this.  The roads
that they use for the Schenley Park course are absolutely fantastic,
and I'd imagine it would be a lot of fun for the drivers.  Lots of
off-camber corners and elevation changes, yum.

Anybody with any GPL experience would probably find it a lot easier to drive
*real* vintage race cars than virtual ones.  For next year, why don't you
invest in a cheap vintage racer (you can find race-prepared Mini Cooper
S's--the original ones--for abt. $10K) and join the fun?  Providing you
don't prang it, you can probably sell it for what you've got in it when
you've through having your way with it?

Hm hm hm.  Probably not next year, but I'm definitely thinking about
restoring a historic 60's car in the next few years.  I'm not sure if
it will be a muscle car, or something more like a mini.

Ideally I'd like a 68 Vette or Trans Am with racing modifications but
I suppose I can dream.

Are there any dealers that sell kits that you would recommend?  I'm
thinking that may be the way to go, as I'd learn a lot of useful
things about the car that way.

Well, Alison and her brother Nate built a stunning Cobra replica from
Factory Five.  It seemed cheap enuf to begin with, but of course then there
were teething problems.  Typical Alison, she lasered in on the problem, and
after a lot of Pi-in-the-sky theory, some computer simulations (using a
hacked version of GPL), some real-world feedback from Doug Arnao (who was my
setup guru when I was writing the GPL guide), and a lot of cut n' try, she
now has a Cobra that handles almost as well as her Ferrari in GPL!!!  She
gave me a ride in it at the Glen, and the suspension holds on like Super
PoliGrip.  Soooo, if you wanted to go that route, Alison, Nate & Doug have
already done all the engineering you should need...and I'm sure it would be
welcome at the PVGP.
