Legends - tire wear

I finally got a computer that'll run legends, and I'm wondering about
tire life.  At Talladega I get about 18 laps on a set of tires using
the ace setup.  About how many laps are some of you getting?  I know
I've got some tweaking to do; I'm looking for an average number of
laps to shoot for.

If you can get over 20 laps on your tires, you ahead of most people in
the game. :) 18 is what I get, but I don't know setup tweeking, so I run
the standard ACE setup as well. But I don't think many people get over
20 laps on tires without asking for a blow out.

in 1969, the Grand National (now knows as WC) guys made 10 pit stops during
the Talladega race. These stops were mainly for tires not fuel, though the
couldnt have gone much further on fuel.
Remember, the '69 race was bycoted (sp) by many of the drivers because of
the tire wear. The tires were just not made for 200mph speeds and were not
lasting long at all so the drivers boycotted the race. In fact, many
istalled litte trap doors in the firewall of thier cars that they could lift
and see the right front tire while still driving. 18-24 laps per set of
tires is about right.

I MIGHT be able to get 20, if I can avoid contact with other cars. :-)

Now that I've got a little more insight into their equipment, I
realize how much tougher things were for drivers 30 years ago.
(Now I'm getting nostalgic for my 65 Chevelle)

They used old, bias-ply tires...these cars were definitely not very
economical...I've managed to burn as much as .4 gallons on the backstraight
of Riverside alone!!!

I beg to differ, Kirk, but I bet they used new bias-ply tires.  The drivers
may have been a bunch of semi-literate ex-moonshiners, but I doubt they were
dumb enough to use old tires...
