X-Car is an experimental racing game from Bethesda. You can modify
almost any part of a car and test it on different tracks.

Anybody got any opinions on this game or on the concept??

Thanks.

Yeah, it's a great concept. That's all I'll say... :-)

As Jim mentioned, it's a great concept, and that's about it.  Bethesda
has done some things with X-Car that other developers should
learn from, that is, that it's easily configurable, easy to hack (lots of
potential for 3rd-party tools, etc), 3dfx support, and has some very
cool-looking tracks (Seattle is my favorite).

However, Bethesda has apparently taken-on the 'guise of
MicroProse, in that they're not very supportive of their products
(ie: they've identified the flaw in X-Car - steering - but haven't
released a patch).  This after identifying the bug several months
back(October), and claiming it's more or less an easy fix.  =(

Makes me wonder how they'll support Burn Out.  =|

Cheers!

We might have to wait awhile to see if they'll support Burnout, saw this
at OGR.COM, from 1/6:

Bethesda announced today that their drag racing
game
Burnout: Championship Drag Racing has been pushed
back
to March 1998. Ashley Cheng, spokesguy for Bethesda
stated, "We will not release this game before its
ready. The
extra time lets us include some extra features which
will
                    make it a better game."

Hmm...I hope Tantrum gets their act together and releases their Top Fuel
simulation when they said they were going to, about the time of the
Winternationals. I think Bethesda wanted to have their sim out by the time the
big boys go to Pomona, and I think they will, it's just that they'll be at the
Winston Finals instead of the Winternationals the way they're going. :(

Burnout was supposed to be out in November, then December, then January, now
March. How much longer do we drag racing fans have to wait for a good sim for
our favorite motorsport? There are WAY TOO MANY F1 and CART/IRL sims out now
anyway.

Not "way too many" good ones, though! I'm looking forward to Burnout,
too...
