Hi,
I read a post eariler today where someone mentioned that "s3dpdup"
may speed up GP2.  Is this a utility?  where can I find it or is it on
my GP2 CD?

Thanks,
John

s3dpdup is a program that only works with S3-cards. It's available from a
lot of places on the internet, but I'm attaching it here in this zip-file.

How do find out if you have a S3 card or not?  I am using a ATI MACH 64
Turbo.
Is this a S3 card?

No. Your card has an ATI Mach 64 chip. S3spdup only works on S3 chip
based cards.

At least mine is. S3 968 (one of the best :-)   )

Tell me if the utility improves the speed, will you?

That's what I thought the chipset in mine was. But maybe I'm doing
something wrong. I type s3spdup /load +vga +vesa and get a message
that s3spdup is loaded, vga loaded and vesa loaded.
However I don't see any difference in how the game runs (Nascar)
and the readme says something about a results.txt file that will show
how much improvement you get but I've yet to find that file. Actualy,
I could be wrong, but under NCR1.2 it almost seems choppier than
before if it even does anything.

That's what I thought, however when I use speedup I see ZERO diff in
Ncr1.xx, in fact almost seems slower. Also, The text file mentions
that it store a record of improvement in a results.txt file somewhere
but have yet to find it. Anyone know if there is a trick to using it
that isn't in the readme?
TIA

No, there is no trick that I'm aware of.. I don't see any improvement
either. I have a Stealth 64 VRAM 2mb. S3spdup didn't change anything as
far as framerates go. The text file does list several results that show
the program speeding framerates up, but I don't see those results in my
tests. Could it be the level of S3 card you have? If you have a bottom
rung S3 DRAM card, it improves alot, but if you have a top of the line
S3 card, you don't see much if any improvement?

I have Stealth 64 2MB VRAM too and my video speed went
from 148 up to 175 according to gp2 log.
I have DX4-100.

I agree, I have a vga card with the Trio64V+ (witch is S3 based) and the
log.txt file shows an improvement of 200 in graph speed when I use s3spdup
utility with univbe. (it goes from 250 approx. to 450 approx.)
But I'm sure there is NOT diff between the two configs.
For example: I one lap in unlimited practise in Suzuka with and without
the s3spdup utility and I don't see any difference. (I also do the laps
with a finger pressing the 'O' key constantly and there is no diff between
the processor ocupancy (maybe s3spdup doesn't lower the p.oc.??).
