Grand Prix 3 problem

by Frod » Mon, 29 Apr 2002 20:37:11

Hi all.

Anybody still playing GP3 around here? :) I walked by the bookshelf
the other day and noticed my GP3 box. I played F1GP and GP2 like
a slave untill the next incarnation came out, but for some reason I've
forgotten didn't ever really get into GP3.

So I grabbed it and installed it and all seemed peachy except for
the graphics calibration dumping me to desktop. No problem, I set
the graphics manually and everything worked ok. Untill I tried to replay
a hotlap. Boom, desktop. The same's happened while mid-game too
but only once so far. Oh, I installed the 1.13 patch too without effect.

Anybody else experience this problem and found a solution? I'll list
my specs in case there's a perp there.

Athlon 1200 (tbird) cpu
Asus A7V133 motherboard
640 MB RAM
Win XP Pro (I read elsewhere that the game works flawlessly in XP, and
                       yes I've tried compatability modes)
SB Live (accelleration one notch down, and via drivers updated to fix the
                 pci issue)
Geforce3 Ti200 (23.11 drivers, the 28.32s didn't like me much last I tried,
but gonna try the new WHQL release later today)

That should be the interesting bits. Apart from that I've got a 1394, scsi
and network card.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

it doesn't work at my place with xp, also others reported problems,
especially with the hotlap replays. win98 is still the best *** platform.

As far as compatability with games is concerned, no doubt. Unfortunately
I use my home computer for home office as well and I just can't reboot every
2 hours to free up all the memory Win98 keeps leaking.

I guess I'll just have to be content with being able to play at all and forget
about viewing hotlaps till GP4 hits the stores:)

Thanks for the answer.

So it's not just me who has noticed the way in which win98 (especially
explorer) eats memory...  Where do I want to go today?  Wherever I can find
out why 128MB is not enough to surf and listen to music when it used to be
ample.

Hehe no kidding. There's a reason I'm at 640MB at the moment. It's ample,
for now, but I bet it won't last.
