GPLSL R.I.P. ???

by Dean William » Thu, 15 Apr 1999 04:00:00

For those of you who have used GPLSL in the past, please read on.  Anyone
that doesn't know what GPLSL (GPL Server Locator) is you can delete now.

Well, I had my first taste of GSB (GPL Spy Boy).  As far as I can see, it is
far more superior than GPLSL.  I don't know why anyone would want to use
GPLSL now that GSB is available.

Do any of you have any objections of me shutting down GPLSL?  If anyone has
an objections, I'll keep it running.  I have been keeping a log for a month
or so, and I can't see any reason why we should.

Let me know.

Dean

Hey thanks Dean!
I'm always amazed at the lenghts many people go to to put something out for
the pleasure and convenience of others.
A tip of the hat to you

Dean, thanks for the great work, you filled a much needed void. See you on
VROC/GSB.

Hi Dean....

Unfortunately, I think you were always on an uphill struggle producing
an alternative to VROC? Especially at it was already so well known and
widely used?

I always found your program to be easy to use and functional, and it
seemed to work ok. The only real problem I had was a lack of hosts!

But hey, the program you produced was still a very good program. And I
really appreciate all you guys (and gals) who put time and effort into
producing these things so that we all get the benefit.

Many thanks anyway, and keep up the great work.

GPLSL filled the void until GSB came along. I am no longer using GPLSL. It
was a bit disappointing that more people did not give it a go :-(

Thanks for the effort Dean. :-)

Bye,
Ian

Yes, thanks indeed for your efforts to make our online racing easier.
I think VROC is the clear way to go now- in part due to it's huge user
base, and also with this new and remarkable GSB. But i for one like
alternatives- any thought of modifying your efforts to make GPLSL in
concert with the VROC happenings? I don't know how it all works, but
maybe interfacing your program with VROC, or perhaps distributing the
VROC server load with your own server. You clearly did a lot of work-
and if it is easy enough to interface with VROC, it would be worth it
I think.

Thanks again.

GSB is amazing and great, but it isn't perfect.
