Nascar2...Sound problem

Nascar2...Sound problem

by Ron » Fri, 06 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I'll start out with my system basics:

Globalyst 375TPC 100mhz Pentium
32 Meg Ram
Intergraph Reactor

Telemetry 32 with Telephone (Multitasking 32bit DSP chip with
telephony communications and audio functions) Full 16-bit audio with
wave table synthesis, ect... Emulates functionality of a SoundBlaster.

My problem is with sound in Nascar2. I cannot achieve higher volumes
as I could with Nascar, Indy2, GP2, ect... for some reason. I am using
the (Soundblaster Pro setting mono or stereo seems to work the same.)
I have maxed ALL volume selections within Nascar2/options/sound. I
have gone back into w95 and maxed my Main and Wav volume settings. I
have also gone into DOS and maxed settings with the mixer.exe program.
Its not super low or anything, just not anywhere near what I could get
with nascar1, ect... Since this isn't an actual Sounblaster type card,
I was considering an Add-on of true type but am wondering if I can
just do this and assign different Interupts, dma, ect.. and retain my
current card as it is used in w95 and built in AT&T software features
and functions very well with this. I realize that I would have to add
seperate speakers or switch them when accessing the addin card. I've
also considered hooking to my stereo through the LINEOUT jack on my
current card. Would this work to achieve high volume with my problem?
What type of cable/jack(s) do you need to convert from the card's 1
out to 2 rca type for going into a home stereo?

Also, If I choose to purchase a true soundblaster card, what's a good
choice for decent sound in racing sims? Compatability with software
will be the most important issue along with cost since I am already
please with my current in general.

Thanks for any help,
Ron

You can get a stereo jack to 2 rca plugs in any Radio Shack. Or you can
easily make your own cable. You just go to any electronics store, and
get a stereo plug, some speaker wire, and two rca plugs. No soldering is
required. With this cable, you could use your home speakers directly
with your sound card, or run some cable to the aux input of your home
stereo. I did this easily and believe me, I'm no expert.

Have fun

don't forget the volume control under the multimedia settings in your
control panel. But I too find the volume lower than other games on SB AWE
32.

I am having the same problem, I have a sound blaster pro also, I went
in and changed the mixer board to 4x sampling which helped, but now
when you exit back to windows you get blown out of your seat.

Any Ideas??

The manual says that when you set the Spotters Voice above 50% and so on,
it lowers all the other sounds by proxy because you are telling the program
that the voice is more important.. I do agree the sounds are lower and I
would like to have more sound effects and the voice... Have your cake and

Solved this problem! Purchased the following from radio shack and
connected line out from soundcard to my stereo:

1 6ft Y-Adapter audio cable 1/8"mini plug to phono plugs (stereo)
1 20ft Headphone Ext. Cable 1/8"mini plug to 1/8" mini jack (stereo)

I must say this is an incredible experience to be able to crank up the
volume and shake the room!

If you use the above method, you can turn down the volume or shut off
on your amp/stereo before exiting to windows. Just don't forget to do
that like I did once. I almost cracked a few windows in my house!

Good advice! I received several emails describing this. I hadn't
looked real close at the manual and had missed this.
