N2 dissapointment

Well I finally decided to play Nascar2, I played Nascar1 quite a bit, but to
due steep hardware requirements and a crummy joystick I never got into it.

So while waiting for F!RS to arrive here in Jersey I decided to get N2 at a
local show on the chaep.

So I get it home and beathlessly try to play it, man what a ***!! Its just
such a pain
So here what I have:

P200MMX
viper 330
64 meg ram
Monster Sound card
TM G1 wheel

So heres what I did:
installed game, tried to run it but hte display was whacked, I did the
display doctor thing and finally got into the game, but occasionally have
video corruption that seems to tear the screen. tried to set up sound but it
hung up every time in every config, no go on sound at all.

I checked the set blaster line and tried to emulate a SB card with the
proper setting still no go.

For me this is a killer since I wont play a game without sound and one that
has graphics problems.  I also cant use the straight DOS version since the
Monster will only work when a game is at least played in a DOS box.

Oh and here is the topper, my wheel wont work in the there at all, I see no
wheel config options, I selec the wheel, but when I try to play its like its
not there, I try to callibrate the joysticks, that dont work, I have the
lastest patch.

So heres my question can anyone point me toward a resource for getting htis
stinking game to work?  Hoently if we weren't getting into the season I
woouldn't bother becuase I firmaly believe that if you cant get ANY computer
program workling inside of 5 minutes (sans copy time) that program isn't
worth you HD real estate ( I write software for a living and religously
stick to this).

thanks

As far as the sound problem goes I had the same problem. Copy the sound.cfg
file from NR1 to NR2. It should work.

I have PII 233mhz with 64 mb and a Viper330 card. N2 works great under
windows in a DOS box. I am also using the GP1 wheel. Make sure the wheel is
calibrated under windows. Do you have the latest Diamond drivers?

First I would ask if you are trying to run in windows or dos.  If windows,
run only in pure dos mode.  set your soundcard up in this mode.  If the
sound card won;t set up, i suggest you try some other games in pure dos
mode and see if their sound is working in dos.  if not , I would blame the
setup, maybe you don't have dos drivers loaded for the game to work.  If
other games work in pure dos mode, use the setting that they are useing,
for nascar2.  As for the display, I don't know what card you are using, but
If the dos mode doesn't fix the display, try loading the uvconfig program
on the cd to install univbe.  If you have already done so, uninstall it, it
might be conflicting.  Hope this helps.

N2 dissapointment

Ed,

I'm not familiar with your video card, so I can't help you there
(sorry).  The Monster Sound card's gameport doesn't work in dos mode, so it
won't help you at all (my wheel is plugged into my legacy card's gameport).
If you have a legacy sound card hooked up, you can use it for the gameport
and the sound (using the pass-thru cable provided).  I used to do my sound
this way, but have since changed my Monster Sound to enable the Sound
Blaster emulation and, so far, haven't had any problems running N2 with
sound and wheel control.

Hope this helps solve at least part of your problem.

 Mike
