NASCAR tyre wear

by Stev » Mon, 16 Oct 1995 04:00:00

Does anyone know to what extent the AI cars in NASCAR suffer from tyre
wear. I often find myself having to slow down to make my tyres last. I
can often manage to do this while blocking all the following cars.
When I slow the pace like this do the AI cars also benefit from
reduced tyre wear or is the logic simpler than that.

Also I find the AI cars often pit as soon as we're close enough to the
finish to get there on a tank full. Whereas I'll hold out longer so my
last set of tyres won't be worn out by running a full tanks worth of
miles, does this cause them to have wrecked tyres at the finish or
not?.

I had asked Papyrus about this and they said that the AI cars do suffer
tyre wear, but at a much less rate than the human driven car.  This was
said to be an "evening out" factor.
