Thrustmaster Wheel Bites the Dust Again!!!

by elrik » Sat, 04 May 2002 15:57:05

Well I won't be racing anywhere for awhile as my Thrustmaster Modena 360
wheel has a broken spring again.

This model has 2 paddle shifter switches (up and down) and 2 paddle variable
anaolg pots for gas and brake.  My first one lasted for about three weeks
before the right analog paddle (gas) lost its return spring.  It took more
then a month to get a replacement (even though the company is here in
Montreal) and now two weeks into using the new one the left analog paddle
(brake) has broken in the exact same way.

Each time I get a replacement it costs me $15.00 Canadian to ship it back
(they pay to ship the new one here).

If anyone knows of a good quality wheel that has similar hand controls ( but
designed not to break when actually used ) , I would appreciate a pointer in
the right direction.

Now to try and get another authorization number for the return.  Right now I
can't even find a page on there site to get one.  :O(

I have a Momo wheel & love it.  It has *metal* paddle shifters (behind the
wheel) and 6 buttons on the wheel itself.  If yer games recognize a second
controller ID, you could add something like the BRD or Act Labs shifter.  (I
prefer the paddles--if they're good enuf for Schuey....)

I had the same 360 Modena wheel for 18 days, and the brake pedal just
thought it would decide to stop.. No noise, no *clunk*, nothing... just no
brake !!

Well 9 days later, still no word from my local computer shop (warranty
issue.. could've been abused...pfft) and I'm hearing uglier stories about
this wheel as the days go by !!

Shame really, cause it has a really nice 'feel' to it !!

I'd buy the Momo in a second if the *metal* paddle shifters were variable
analog pots and not simply all or nothing (on/off) switches.

My main difficulty is finding a wheel with manual gas and brake.

Why on earth would you want to use analog to shift?  For a clutch, maybe,
but to shift?  If you mean to drive with hand controls for the throttle &
brake, I have an old Thrustmaster Formula T1 that does just that.  Still
bulletproof after all these years.  I'll sell it to you if you really want
it.  Alternative: I spent a year driving IndyCar Racing with a pair of CH
joysticks--the left hand for throttle/brakes, the right for steering.
Worked pretty well, too...only it looks like yer playing the Theramin. ;o)
