ICR2 - Oversteering & Understeering Problems

by Ray Wan » Sun, 14 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I've huge problems with ICR2.  Mind you, I am very fast on ICR1 but
in ICR2 I've problems navigating around a track without going off
somewhere.  I changed my settings to most downforce and neutral balance.
But I get oversteering problems as well as some understeering problems
as well.  Strangely, I only oversteer around a particular corner in a
specific track -> e.g. 3rd turn of Elkhart Lake and the fast turn of
Detroit.  That is , I only oversteer arounf those turns, every time, no
matter how I change my settings.  Counld some ICR2 veterns help!!
Setting for each track would be appreciated if possible!

Both of those turns are left-handers, right?  I have the same problem, but on
the fast right-handers (miami, elkhart, laguna).  I think my problem is a
calibration deal.  Either my game card is too slow for my p90, or i've
developed a glitch in my T1.  I hope it's the card.  That's cheaper<g>.

What kind of machine/controller/game card do you have?

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?

Ray, not to sound too simple, but alter your driving style a
bit...hold the gas instead of pushing it to the floor and try a
smoother line at a more constant speed.  This is a suggestion only,
mainly because where I was aggressive in ICR1 I am more cautious and
even in ICR2 and my times are finally starting to decrease.

>I've huge problems with ICR2.

Many, many of us have. What sort of controller are you using? I think
ICR2 requires a decent wheel/pedal combo like the T2 or better. Most
joysticks/flight yokes force you to keep the wheel lock at around 8,
but on a T2, you can leave it comfortably at 18 without making
steering jerky. They are only $99 at Circuit City, and I've heard that
they are even less other places.

Watch your tire temps, you are probably heating one way up and the
rest are cool. And adjust your camber (usually plenty of negative
camber) to get tire temps somewhat even across each tire. Set all
shocks even at first (around 60 is usually ok), and it's probably wise
to go with an equal wing setting too until you know what you are going
for; 11.6 or so is a nice place to start on road courses, I've found.

Good luck!

But if I remember correctly, both of those turns are 'flat-out' kinks in a
straight...  Are you saying we have to LIFT for those???

It could be the T1.  Mine was very twitchy around the center...made it
impossible to race at an oval...slight correction sent me into the wall.
I thought maybe it was me, or that I was using my sound card joystick
port.  Then I was calibrating it one day, and noticed that even on the
calibration screen, the little arrow was jumping all over the place.
Called Thrustmaster, they sent me 2 new potentiometers.  Replaced the
steering and gas pots.  Works great now.  Give them a call!!

Ive been ***ing to papyrus for months about the same problem
but they dont want to help .....what i find with oversteer is
to release throttle just for a mili second and oversteer gone
and for understeer i find that if you leave the left or right
key (keyboard driving) in the turn (I know this sound crazy)
the car seems to pull in a lot better ..... I wish they would
release a patch to fix the problems .....at elkhart i have a
setup for about 1:49:00 that handles very well if you want it
just e-mail me and I'll send it to you to try
Regards

Thanks, Rick.  Now all I have to do is find their number...
BTW, when did you drop 'Crash' from your name?<g>
