its easier to drive a car with a joystick than to fly a plane with a wheel
and pedals.

If price is a concern, the Gravis Xterminator will do both.  $30 at Best Buy.

Compusa have a cheap wheel with their brand, $20 with squeeze thingies
behind the wheel, and $30 with pedals, made by CH (their entry level wheel).
These at times even go lower in price, like every other week. I have the
cheaper one, and use CH pro pedals with it for driving.

The Logitech Wingman Interceptor is $60 with a $20 rebate from Best Buy last
time I checked (and bought one).  A nice stick with three 8 way view hats.

You cannot beat CH pro pedals for quality and value IMHO.  These work for
flying and driving.

Ditto on the Wingman Interceptor.  With the included software, you can
program a LOT of functions onto the buttons, and for $40 it's all most
people will ever need.  Very smooth in action, too.  About as good as you
get without spending a ton of money on a full stick / throttle combo, and
these tend to be somewhat flaky with modern systems anyways - and hard to
find.

I use a MSFF wheel and a MS Precision Pro USB stick, they are both connected
and seen in windows and can be changed from the sidewinder software so no
messing about with the game controllers applet is required ;)
I've only tried GPL and MS Combat flight sim so far though, maybe problems
with other games that are less configurable.
