What's the secret to Thruxton?

by Paul Jone » Sun, 19 Jul 1998 04:00:00

I can't see where to get the extras seconds at Thruxton in TOCA. I'm not
far off the pace at all the other circuits but Thruxton just seems long
and straightish and most of it I can burn round full-throttle in 6th
gear, but at 1:08+ secs I'm well over 3 secs slower than the top laps.
Please can someone tell me what the secret is?

You could try straightening out the last chicane before the
start/finsh straight? you can save a couple of seconds there alone?

I've tried that, but the barriers just pave in the front of my car :-)

You could get the ghost lap and see what line they take.
I find Thruxton really boring anyway as it's just pedal to the
metal virtually all round the circuit.

Try harder but be very gentle on the controls when your on the grass. Sneak out to the
right on the grass before the first right bend in the chicane (where the other cars starts
breaking) then you can go almost straight through the rest of it. You can actually pull it
off on 6th gear and then you earn quite a few secondes on each lap which makes it very
easy to win the race.

Yeah, but you can't see the gears or the engine revs from the ghost - only
the line!

You're right, but I bet it's scary as hell to drive round in real life.Paul

Snip

***! I do the same thing at the chicane at Donnington. Still can't
get near the best lap times!

So this is the secret to Thruxton! Sorry, Peter Gagg, I didn't understand what you said first
time. I thought you were joshing. Though I have noticed that you can sneak between the
barriers - but not at any significant speed! :-)

I *never* joke when it comes to sims......well, ok, *sometimes* I
joke? Yeah, sorry my answer to your query was a bit short!

Try to take the last chicane as a straight line and go *through* it
rather than *around* it, IYKWIM?

I don't even brake here, just lift off the throttle a bit before the
last right hander, then power thru the chicane at full throttle, close
your eyes and pray......it works for me!

Try the DPMRA British Touring Car Challenge if you have TOCA Touring Car
Championship from Codemasters.

Get a Fast Lap at Silverstone International in August.

Good luck
