CarSound utility from Nigel Pattinson

I downloaded CARSOUND.ZIP and tried to apply it to GPL.EXE  - this patch
makes GPL use a different engine sound for each car (no more lotus/eagle
sharing the cosworth.wav file).

When I try to run the patch EXE, it says it couldn't find the required
index in GPL.EXE.

Has anyone been able to successfully patch the retail U.S. version?

The file at KOTR's GPL page:
http://start.at/KOTR

I just can't figure out where to get the 7 wav. files needed to use the
CarSound patch.

If it's not part of the patch (the patch creates them in the sounds
directory?), then all you have to do is unpack the existing sounds.dat
file and rename the files you already have.  I haven't been able to get
the patch to even patch the executable, so I can't help you.

http://start.at/KOTR has it and the beautiful GPLSeason by the
same author (GPLSeason is to GPL what GPEdit is to GP2), plus
a few graphics file improvements (not as many as Matthew Knutsen
has on his site, http://home.sol.no/~kareknut/simrace1.htm --
another must-bookmark site).

However, I have not tried the CarSound utility yet because
after running it you MUST supply all the engine sounds.  Since
I don't have enough different engine sounds for each car yet,
I haven't bothered trying to run the utility.

And while I'm on the subject of utilities, y'know, it'd be nifty
if someone would write one so that in single-player mode the game
would give you car #13 instead of car #4.  This way when people
make carsets, they don't have to give a "real" driver a number
that never would have been used -- to this day the number 13 is
not used in Formula One racing.  So, by golly, I'll take it,
since I'm the non-F1 racer in the pack!  (And yes, I know you
can have two #4 cars, but that's just as bad in the mind of a
perfectionist such as myself!)

Even if all it does is make the game DISPLAY #13 on the scoring
screens and change car 13 to display as car 4; I could always swap
the images for cars 13 and 4, and I'd never know that it was a
cheatin' way to do it...!
