I started racing GPL online through VROC this w/e and I've never had so
much fun with my clothes on.
However there have been a few blips....
I.Slowpoke registered a 5x.xx for Monza in practice that became the
track record on my box for a couple of races until he was displaced by
D.Duke who registered a fantastic and surely untouchable 6.66 seconds.
In my most recent race cars appeared and disappeared all around me like
ghosts. Either I pulled past them or they vanished completely, because
one and a half laps later the steward who usually waves flags at me just
before the Parabolica pulled out my pit board which showed me 7 secs
ahead of the field. My pit crew had given up and weren't showing me
anything. I managed to hold this lead for a while despite my brakes
going down to half power (and not locking) in a way I've never seen
before and was only two laps from the line when I was suddenly
disconnected.
Bit of work to be here Papy,
Paul

Hey man it's true! Satan was my co-pilot : ) <insert sinister laugh
here>
But really , does anyone know how to edit these records? In addition
to my now infamous 6.66 secs. at Monza I have some other bogus track
records that I would like to correct.

Yeah, there's a records.ini file in each track's directory.  Just change
the text to something realistic.  When this happens I usually set it to
a couple of seconds higher than my best time so that it will be quickly
broken again and rewritten with a good value -- e.g., at Monza  D. Ewing
1:32.1234 (don't remember how many decimal places, but use the same
amount as the file).

This fixes the problem when an online opponent gets the clock-smash and
sets the unreal time.  If it happens to you, things are a little more
complicated.  You can do the same trick as discussed above, but this
will only affect the screen that shows the map of the track and lists
the record.  It won't change your "Best Laps" pages and it will
seriously freak out the AI.  They will think that you are super-human
and adjust their performance accordingly (global hype).  You need to
remove your file in your personal player folder whose name escapes me
(and I'm at work).  Something like player_std.dat (help me here).
Unfortunately, you then will lose all your best lap info.

I strongly suggest that everyone back up this file before going online!

Following up my own post here - the file whose name I forgot that keeps
track of your personal bests is called player.sts and lives in your
players/LastName__Firstname folder. Back this up regularly, particularly
before going online!

Dave,

In my H:\SIERRA\GPL\players\Burrowes__John dir there is a player.ini
file. It has all the info about my Best Laps. You can easily edit
yours to correct warped times - whether done online or off.

Hmm.  I've had my brakes go out too.  I just assumed something was wrong with
my controller, because I'd had OTHER calibration problems...
