Indy is a 'technical' track, actually quite demanding...and more suited to
Coulthard's usual cool style than Alesi's pyrotechnics, altho the reverse
was obviously true today. There's a definite rhythm to the infield,
particularly the first few turns, but those last coupla hairpins look
tighter than Monaco's Station. The Big Q is, of course...why? Why did they
feel constrained to make them so tight? There was talk last year of easing
the radii, but obviously they di'n't.
Too bad EA didn't make their release deadline (Sept. 25) for this year's US
GP; "F1 2001" might have cashed in on the interest spike. Oh well, maybe
next year (or the year after, given sims' usual product cycle).
The weather at the Glen this year would have been perfect; a coupla deg.
warmer than Indy; an achingly bright, cloudless fall day (I live abt. an
hour away). Of course, the Glen was traditionally a week or so later...and
more often than not, either boiling hot or--more ususally--freezing cold.
I kinda liked The Bog. Great place for Rolling Stone-type interviews (gems
from the spectators, not the performers).
As much as I love Elkhart, it's obvious that it's way too dangerous for
Bernie to give it his blessing as a F1 track. About $30 million short of a
full FIA sanction...and one Interstate exit short of a profitable crowd.

To play Devil's advocate, I like most of the Indy circuit. Parts of the
infield don't seem to flow (to me), but I really like the banking turn
leading to the straight and I do like the first and last part of the
infield - there's a section in the middle that seems to break up the rythm
though. The oval banking section and the long straight are a nice feature
that seems to remind me of Monza for some reason. Speedvision also shows a
retrospective of the U.S. GP, and aside from financial issues, and a bad
atmosphere of "hooliganism" for the infield fans, the Glen is run during a
rainy, damp, chilly time of year for the NE. As they say it, when the
weather was good, there were few tracks that could match the splendor of the
scenery at the Glen, but then they cut to scenes from yesteryear's races run
in the rain. Not so good for the fans or the drivers. Like Sam Posey and
Bob Varsha, I do wonder if Road America would be a better addition to the
series though.

!!I second that motion!! last I knew someone was working on just that.
Unfortunatly I also heard that he stoped, Though I don't know how true that
is. With or with out the innerloop doesn't bother me, I just want the
addition of the boot :-) Be also nice to have it for N4! All though I
think the N4 cars are a bit too heavy for any road course, I still think it
would enhance the N4 road racing experiance :-)

I'm generally in favor of adding anything having to do with the Glen, it being my "home" course and all. I have a hard time picturing the boot "enhancing" the N4 experience, you'd kill your brakes and maybe hit 2nd twice, kind of boring I would think. Definitely would be a cool addition to GPL though.
