Not something you hear very often, but... Hooray for Microsoft! :0)

My Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel broke last week - the spring under the
brake pedal snapped in half. I managed to remove the broken spring but it
didn't look like a "normal" spring that I could replace easily so I phoned
up Microsoft to see if I could get a replacement.

This morning a brand new wheel arrived by UPS. No charge to me, and I've
still got the old one. I'm astonished with what they've done as I wasn't
expecting much, if any, help.

Sweet.

I called the UK support number for "Desktop Applications, Home Products,
Personal Operating Systems and Hardware" on 0870 60 10 100 - this was on the
MS website at http://support.microsoft.com/directory/

Had to explain the problem about 4 times over but I eventually got through
to "Direct Services" who are the department that can authorise replacements
due to technical problems. It took about 20 minutes in all, and I basically
just tried really really hard to be as polite and friendly-sounding as I
could possibly be (figuring that they might be more inclined to help then!).
It worked too :0)

For reference, I bought my wheel online from www.dabs.com about 2 months
ago. Never contacted dabs about it as it wasn't really their problem anyway.

Hope that helps, good luck!

They replaced mine as well. First they sent just a power supply then the
whole works when that didn't fix it.
