Gary Wood, of Hamilton, Ont. beat out five other competitors in the finals
of the Player's Racing Team Simulator Challenge, which was held this past
weekend at Laguna Seca, after a six-month cross-country search to find the
best "virtual" driver in Canada. Wood, who had a chance to meet Lee Bentham
and Alex Tagliani of the Player's Atlantic Team, will be invited to take a
test drive in the blue and white Atlantic car, along with three of his
friends, at the Derek Daly Academy in Las Vegas.

Well, as a preliminary (= in location in cities) it was that...
Thanks for telling us the final winner. I know that 2 Simracers (Barry
Notch and another I think) participated at the finals. AFAIK...
It was fun, but pretty stupid the decision to have all helps at on (Icr2 =
auto braking, etc...) (Gp2 F1 to F7...) for the challenge.

The reason for autobraking was due to the fact with Tobacco Advertising Laws
in Canada, Players are only allowed to use the Hyper Stimulators in a
restricted age area, the bar and night club scene. You can imagine the
condition of some of the participants. They felt is was fair to give
everyone the same conditions. And sure enough the ones who used the ICR2 at
home where the ones who won. The good news is that the finals were going to
be a little different. The plan was to eliminate the autobrake and allow
some adjustments. The contestants were going to be given some time to setup
their car before the final which was the Laguna Seca track and there was
going to be 15 minutes of qualifing.
This was the first year of the Players Simulator Challenge Tour. They plan
to analyse everything and hopefully make some adjustments to next years tour
(if they have one, I think they will). I strongly suggest that everyone
contact Players at www.players-racing.com and tell them how much you want
the tour back next year.

Sorry to be late answering (didn't saw it but it's a good thread). I
somehow understand the decision... Mostly that in Gp2 with all aids at on
it's very easy to stay on the track and achieve high times, well more than
in Icr2.
And there's probably the whole graphic-hog that Gp2 is... you can get
incredibly well framerate with low end-classic Pentiums.
I understand well that position. I know some of them weren't in condition
for driving a car ;-)
In Icr2 it wouldn't had been a problem (It's fairly easy) but since it used
Gp2 here in Montreal its not the same as in Icr2 (erratic at random places
hehe).
Oh sure... I will do that. It's a great experience, and I would restart it
anytime... I think Players and Hyperstimulator really had a great publicity
out of it (Im planning on building an Hyper Kit for a Christmas gift hehe).
It was a great success I would guess.
