tying up the Daytona license, so no one can have it.  Hell, they don't
even have it in their screwy little game.  I ain't buying nothing from
them, it's obvious they don't care.  Wouldn't it be great if their game
didn't sell worth squat, and they offered Papyrus the license?

Sega will sell millions of "Daytona USA" for thier consoles, and millions of
quarters will pump into their arcade machines.  Why?  Because the general
population has never seen Daytona, and will happily believe that's what it
actually is!  The vast majority of people couldn't care less about simluation
reality, or setups, or drafting differences between Ford and Chevy.  Just look
at the popularity of Destruction Derby (1 and 2)!  Even if it didn't sell worth
a crap, they'd probably keep the license anyway; "If I can't have it, noone
will!"

Well maybe Nintendo will run them out of business soon. Sega just had
to merge with Bandai (Think it was Bandai) a few months ago to stay
alive.

I think perhaps that being that NASCAR did renew (so I heard, not a fact)
their license with
Sega is a smart move on NASCARS part. Because they know they will make a
lot,
a TON,  more money with Sega than Any other game company around. Or
combined.
GP2 & ICR2 and N2 Sims sold about 800,000 copies combined so far.
Thats 500,000 for GP2 which is correct, and say 300,000  >Im guessing here<
for papyrus Sims. that is not alot compared to the console systems.
So lets just say (guessing) that papyrus sells 1million copies of N2. Won't
happen.
Sega has about 3.2 Million consoles sold, so far. Not to mention their
Arcade division, And now PC division as well. PC DAYTONA USA SUCKS SHIT
BTW!!  But suckers will but the shit game.  And the new ones will be
better.
80 bucks a crack for the Daytona Remix( which is pretty good on the Saturn)
They gonna make the big bucks!!! So is Nascar.
What Im saying is that Nascar and Sega Want too make the Big Bucks. They
Buds.
And they have, are, and will, make the big bucks.
You can bet they are in bed together.
And I bet Nascar is as much to blame as Sega.
What do you think?  Remember these are  just my thoughts, not facts.

I'm not finding fault with the business part of your analysis; it's a
simple fact that Sega can afford WAY MORE money for the license than
we can.

But the license for Daytona comes from International Speedway Corp,
not from NASCAR. NASCAR is just the sanctioning body. (Yes, there is
some common ownership, but it's still ISC...)

Thanks for your response Jim. May I ask you, is there any chance of Papyrus
getting
A license for Daytona? And with which organization or company would you
have
to Deal with? Sega? ISC? NASCAR? ALL of them?
Also... how much money are we talking for a license? Do you know how much
Sega
Paid to the ISC? Just curious.
Gotta love BIG business.

FWIW, Papyrus sold nearly a million copies of the original NASCAR
game...and I believe close to 300K copies of ICR2...This doesn't take
into account that nearly 70% (a guess OMP) of N1 owners will buy N2,
or the sales from ICR(1).

Maybe ISC will open their eyes someday and see that the Nascar sims
have sold more copies (pretty sure) than Daytona USA. I mean you'de
think they actually want something that represented the sport and thier
track with a little more realism. Last time I was at Daytona I must have
missed those huge mountains and all of those trees. I pretty sure I
speak for a few people that when I first saw Daytona USA by sega I
almost vomited. Sega is so hard up for business they actually giving the
game away and two others when you by their system.

You may not like this reply:

This is just an educated guess on my part, but I think Sega's Daytona-
USA -dollar_for_dollar - has out sold NASCAR, NASCAR-2, F1/WC,
GP2, ICR, ICR2, and probably a couple others by 10 to 1...combined.

Of course, I'm not referring to the PC thingy, but the coin-op one you see
in all the arcades...ALL THE ARCADES!!  Sega can then afford to sell the
game at $19.99, $9.99, or simply bundle it in with one of those fancy
systems.

I can't stand the PC version, but send me over to Dave & Buster's with
a beer in one hand, and a Power-Card in the other, and I'll swipe all
night
on that thing.  Afterwards, I realise that it was all a silly nightmare...

...actually, the Power-Card has run out of cash.  ;)

Marc
