A wheel/pedal setup is much easier and more realistic.  You can make your own.
All you need is 3 100 kohm pots, an old wheel, and a little inventiveness.

Great, I'd appreciate more information. Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is a 100kohm pot (i'm a civ not an ece) and where can I get it.  I assume that you have already built one of these monsters, so could you please elaborate.

Thanks, I'm sure it will be of interest to many of us.

I would also like some more info.
Do you have plans or know where to get them?

type and rotating type.  Tandy will supply these.  Make sure that you get
linear track rather than log otherwise you will have minimal sensitivity one
end and maximum sensitivity the other.  Try and get plastic types rather than
carbon track as plastic is superior and longer lasting (also more
expensive:-(  ).  Carbon tends to wear and build up dirt.  I used slider on my
home mad pedal setups.  Also my home made setup has two independant pedals
that are not linked.  I have only ever seen one set of pedals and they were
linked.  Dappy idea me thinks!!

The best thing to do is get a cheap joystick, then take the pots out of
it.  You also get the connectors then.

Steering Wheels

All this talk of making a steering wheel has now got me thinking of
doing one.  I experimented w/ some potentiometers last night but the ?
for those who've already built a wheel is...which is better for
shifting...push buttons on the wheel itself or some sort of
paddle/lever mechanism similar to the semi-automatic ***s that used
to be in F1 about two years ago?

TIA,

Tim
