This is definetly the fastest way around the street and road courses in
Indycar2.
Please for the sake of fast lap time brake then turn, and no skidding.
It will only slow you down. You want your car to be on rails around the
turns.

It STILL seems that to get through the turns without skidding, I have to be at
'granny speed' :(

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?

My laptime at Longbeach improved from 0:52.8 to 0:51.824 because I slide (
brake and turn at the same time ) into some of the corners. This works for
corners that aren't too tight at the end of high speed straights !!

That's a great time, I'm only at 52.4xx. I am curious- Which turns?
And do you mean that you were doing a 4-wheel drift, or just pulling
the back end around?

The key seems to be to find the middle ground between full loss of
traction and no loss that gives you the most speed coming out of the
turn, and this means always sliding a bit. The speed you have coming
out of the turn seems to be the critical thing, because so much is
time is lost re-accellerating after the turn. At Long Beach, I can
almost always get to the last turn in 43 or so seconds, but the speed
I have at the end of that last turn seems to determine if I run a 52
or a 55.

Hmm...I'd be HAPPY with a 55.xxx!<g>

I

I also find that in most situations that if i brake and slide it gives me a
faster lap, although i admit that braking first is far better for the
confidence, then again mabye i'm just crap:)

I noticed at the Surfers race that some of the drivers were doing
something similar.  Some of them actually kicked the rear-end out to
straighten up the car for exiting the turns.  For Long Beach there are a
couple of turns that can only really be taken via the method you are
talking about.  It's a touchy method, but then driving an Indycar on the
edge is touchy.
