If you are a total numpty like me at driving GP2, here is an idea to
help you learn the circuits, specifically when to brake when not using
the auto-brakes driving aid.

Switch on the suggested gear indicator, then as you approach corners,
apply the brakes until the auto-gears downshifts you into the gear
displayed in the suggested gear indicator. By gentle increases/decreases
of the throttle, you should be able to get throught the corner without
too much difficulty. By matching up the gears, you are more or less at
the right speed for the corner.

regards,

Paul.

Well *** me - I wondered what the suggested gear thing was for. Now
I know it's suggesting the right gear to go round corners in. It's a
miracle!

Don't tell me - I should follow the "suggested line" also ?

Ha ha. Just pushing aside your incisive satire for a moment, let me
explain again. Auto-brakes OFF, auto-shift ON. The suggested gear
indicator is conventionally used when you are learning to use manual
gear changes - the point I was making was that if you use automatic gear
changes, the suggested gear indicator can double up as a braking
intensity indicator. I don't think that's such a dumbass thing to say as
you imply.

You're absolutely right.  In fact it's very good advice--not only does
it serve as a 'braking intesity' indicator, but it helps tremendously in
learning the layout of the tracks as well (by assigning each curve a number).

Well, I thought of the "suggested gear thing" as a help for people who
use manual shifting until Paul pointed out that it can be used as an
indicator while driving with *auto shifting* and *manual braking*.
Thanks for an interesting hint, Paul!

Even better, select a quick race with no players and just watch how
the AIs drive.  You get gears, lines and overtaking opportunities.
