You use winamp KB?  Go in the Preference/option panel, then the output
section of your plug-ins.  You will probably have one named "NullSoft Disk
Writer".  Just click on it.  Files will be saved in your C:/ as pcm WAV
files, but you can always change some stuff by Configuring your plug-in.

Remember to put it back to Waveout after that, or else you'll always be
converting your MP3 to Wav's the next time you use Winamp (and they take
awful lot of space of course).

I'd definately avoid using the WINAMP diskwriter to convert it to a wave,
I've read a lot of instances of it having problems.

You can use LAME with the -extract option I think to change it to a perfect
WAV. Since lame is free ware, and quite frankly, kicks the ass out of
everything, I'd say it's a good way to go.

CDex is a great way to go. It uses the LAME codec, BTW.

True, but you can fight the evil:

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

The startup control panel gives you complete control over what does
and does not startup with windows. Includes all the hidden ways of
starting programs, so it's also handy for defeating spyware.

This utility is indispensible. It's one of those things you try and go
"Why the $^#% didn't Microsoft make this part of Windows?"

The bastards moved/hid the "Output" option in v3. Anyone know where it
is?

There is a built-in tool that does some of what this one does. At least
under Windows 98 it's available from the System Configuration Utility. Run
"msconfig" from the Start|Run command - it will let you uncheck all the ***
that tends to get loaded at startup. I'm not sure it lets you control the
"RunOnce" entries but it lets you control all the other stuff. I run this
after I install anything new, and usually end up turning off whatever ***
that install program decided I absolutely HAVE to run. My home PC (primarily
used for ***) has systray and explorer running - that's it.

I'd love to be more precise about how to use msconfig but I'm at work on
Win2K and it's different.
