Steering Wheel / Modem conflict please help

by darre.. » Thu, 07 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I went out and bought the microsoft sidewinder force feedback wheel
today. I have a cable modem and everytime I run Nascar3 it locks up my
cable modem where it will not connect back online. It also will not
let me connect to race online. I have to reboot the computer to get my
modem to work after running Nascar3. Anyone know whats causing this
and how to fix it? Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the only way I can get my modem to work is to
remove the steering wheel from "game controllers" in control panel
before I reboot.

Steering Wheel / Modem conflict please help

I had this exact problem with my old modem and my force feedback wheel,
though I use an I-Force wheel..

you might find it's IRQ conflict (beleive it or not) and anything that
plugs in through the joystick port slows the game down, my I-Force goes
through the com port so it's not a problem :) I turn it off though.. as
it can act very erratically playing N3 online, otherwise it's fine
playing

I recommend a new modem, or play with the IRQ settings on each, it might
solve the problem, I upgraded to cable modem and it works fine now :)

This is an unexplainable but fixable problem with Microsoft controllers.
The I/O range used by the controller and the network card (or the cable
modem) conflict.  Its remedied by dropping down the IO range on the net card
to the next lower range (without a conflict).
