I'am having trouble getting Nascar2 to work on a local network using
Windows95 IPX/SPX protocol.  I get an error message saying that Nascar2
cannot initialize IPX device.

Regards,
Mike Mortimer

Mark,  nope, nada, no way.  This may be true for on-line stuff, =
but not for a LAN.
       =20
        Mike,
       =20
I pulled out several handfuls of hair prior to getting this to =
work, but I have N2 running through my Win95 LAN very nicely.
       =20
Ok,  simple stuff, but I had trouble with it, so maybe you are =
too.
       =20
        1.  Make sure the IPX protocol is actually working.  Easiest way =
is to try and play either Duke 3d or Shadow Warrior.  I say these two =
games because when you run SETUP, in the Network Game options you can =
pick what address you want to use, then start the game so see if the =
computers find each other.  If so, then your IPX protocols are working =
correctly.=20
        2.  If you pass test 1 above,  make sure that your IPX network =
address is the same on every system you have on the LAN.  I had =
initially set these as different, but this turned out to be a BAD thing. =
See, you ( at least I ) cannot specify which IPX address to use when =
launching a N2 LAN game.  It takes the default, and looks for others on =
this address.  If they aren't there, on the same address,  it won't =
work.=20
       =20
Upon further thought, your error sounds like you either do not =
have IPX installed, or it is not operating correctly.  I am playing with =
mine now, to see what I have to do to get this error.
       =20
Ok, played with it for a few, and here is what I got.
       =20
        1.  Removed the IPX protocol, and received the same error =
message as you.  The only other time I saw this error in N2 was when I =
was trying to run Kali for DOS, and hadn't loaded the required packet =
driver.
       =20
I trust that your network is working properly?  You can trade =
files, run programs through your network, etc?=20
       =20
Check your network settings.  Here is what I have loaded, and N2 =
works fine here.
