Problems with TSW Wheel

Problems with TSW Wheel

by Bertram Hoenigman » Sun, 11 Jul 1999 04:00:00

After changing my pots today, I find that the brake pedal on my TSW
Wheel (not TSW2) isn't functioning.

I'm using a new set of spec pots, and I switched them between the gas
and brake pedals.  No matter which pot I use on which pedal, the gas
always works and the brake never does, so it's not the pots themselves.
When calibrating thru Windows 95 Control Panel, whether using dual axis
or single axis, I get absolutely no response from the brake pedal -- not
even a blip.

It looks to me like a wiring problem (although the brake pedal pot is
definitely plugged into the correct receptacle), but I'm hoping that
it's something simple that I'm overlooking.

Any thoughts/suggestions on what to try would be appreciated.

My TSW pedals plug into the side of the steering wheel. Could it be that
there is a plug or wire problem, either before or after the plug? I am
assuming that the accelerator works OK; and that is the same plug. My
guess is that the brake wire is broken near the plug.

Thanks for your response.  Howver, I have found the problem.  It turns out
that I was not rotating the spec pot for the brake pedal 90 degerees as I was
installing it (as required by the instructions).  In effect, it was "out of
range"

This is my first experience with these spec pots, and IMO they are worth the
extra cash. -- VERY precise handling.

I also found that of all the driving sims I have, the one most tolerant of
pots that are going bad was GPL (surprisingly).  With my old pots, I could no
longer calibrate ICR2, GP2, MGPRS2, F1RS, etc., even though I could still
calibrate in the Windows Control Panel, and in GPL.  It was driving me nuts,
because only GPL had no problem.  As soon as I changed the pots, I was able to
calibrate in all of my sims.

So, for anyone who's having problems calibrating in some sims, but not in
others, change those pots!

Thanks again for your response.
