#9 Motion Graphic 771.... Info wanted

I recently ordered a new P166s from Dell (The one with the new S-DRAM and
Triton II chipset) The computer is being shipped with a #9  771 Motion
Graphics Accelerator w/2mb VRAM.  If you have used this card in DOS for
simulation games, please respond and tell me how well it works.   I'm
currently using a P90 with a Diamond EDGE 3-D 4MB VRAM and I have noticed
that the EDGE card is great in Win 95, however it is very slow (poor
framerates) in DOS games.  If the #9 card does well in DOS games, I might
just nix the EDGE all together.

After giving up on getting any satisfaction from Dell, I just bit the
bullet and bought a Matrox Millennium.  The touted 771 is very slow in
DOS.  The MM is slightly better in Windows and dramatically better in DOS.

See if you can get Dell to put in the cheapest card available.  You're
going to want to get a decent DOS card anyway.  Or buy Gateway with an MM.

Anyone want to buy a 771, cheap?

My 771 VLB card is no better than a Cirrus Logic VLB card.  I think
there are a few people with 771s for sale.  NCR2 this fall will optimize
it's code for Pentium technology and 3D cards.  I would think the
Diamond 3D would have been fine.

From all the info I've gathered: DRAM is better for DOS, VRAM is better
for windows. I also bought the #9 771 just before getting on-line for
first time. If I only knew...
Personally, I'm waiting for the "next" generation of 3-D cards to come
out. I think there will be a dramatic improvement in them. It looked like
there was a "push" for v-card companys to get "a" 3-D card to market
recently, hence the lack of a big improvement over 2-D...

There was a 3-D card review on the c-net website recently. I dont know
if is still there, but if so, it would be worth a look. As best I
remember, it was exactly as stated in an earlier reply, the #9 didn't
do real well in DOS. I think the MM was the overall favorite. I think
the address is http://www.c-net.com

C-NET recently had a 3-D Video card test on their website. It was
exactly as one of the previous replies indicated, the #9 does not work
that well in DOS. I dont know if the test is still up, but if so, its
worth a look. http://www.c-net.com

the #9 Motion Graphic 771.  After two weeks of frustration with Dell,
they agreed to exchange the card for a Diamond Stealth which I have had
no problems with.  At the time, the 771 was so new, nobody at Dell could
diagnose my problems.  They also reminded me, their machines are for
business, not entertainment, and the 771 worked fine for business
applications, which is all they certify it for.

I would dump the card (ship it back to Dell) and upgrade to the 3d.

I have the same Dell p166 computer with 32MB of RAM. I can run ICR2 with
all graphics on and NASCAR with asphalt texture off and everything else
on. CDBENCH shows 95 fps in VGA and 32.5 fps in SVGA.
