Converting Euro carsets to US and vice versa.

by Je » Tue, 30 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Hi all!

I've just finished writing two small utils that convert US Nascar cars
sets to Euro compatible ones and vice versa.

I've sent it to a select few for beta testing but it seems that it
doesn't fully work.

I was told by Greg Higerty and a few others is that in the US version
'kell_5' is replaced with 'beng13' in the Euro ones.

Is this the only difference or is there anything else?
One beta report says that it doesn't solve the garage problem and it
made the sim crash at one track.

I've checked my code and its is patching incorrectly.

Can anybody shed some light?

TIA

That's definitely the only difference. To convert the IWCC sets for my Euro
site, I simply run a little DOS util that does a search & replace on kell_5 &
replaces it with beng13... Always works here....

I attempted to convert the BTCC carset in this manner, and it does not work
properly.  There must be some other difference.

Gav,
The reason I posted this is because I've just written a two way
utility to do just that. Nice interface and all that.

I've sent it out to a couple of Beta testers and at present the US2UK
version seems O.K but reports have come in that the UK2US one is still
preventing visits to the Garage and causes the game to hang.

Shouldn't do, but I've got to check it.

A rather tedious but effective method is to export all the BTCC cars
using Paintkit and then go to a renamed US version of a carset and
import them again.

This is exactly what I ended up doing.  I did notice one thing during this
most unpleasant process.  All but a couple of the .pcx filenames are
different between the carsets.  My guess is that this has something to do
with the euro to us conversion problem.
