Excuse me for saying so, but why is Moto Racer and POD being discussed in
an auto simulator news group? How many more of you are weary of wading thru
all

This is technically the rec.autos.sims group, but I for one play a ton
of different racing games. As much as I honestly love GP2, ICR2 and
N2, and as much time as I have devoted to those sims in hopes of
actually making progress over time, sometimes I enjoy taking a break
and just getting loose. Games such as Interstate 76,POD, and Need for
Speed are fun to play just for fun. (I76 has an excellant driving
model, that might have gone unnoticed if not for this NG)  The RAC
Rally game is a blast, but some would argue how authentic it is. But
does that mean that I would'nt get to hear about reviews, comments or
patches if this newsgroup was exclusively for (true) sims?  If there
were 10 or more racing sims out there the situation may be different.
There just are'nt all that many 'true' simulations out there.
I can understand why a dedicated, *** auto sim player would be
annoyed now and then, but I would say overall it is really worth the
trouble if we can have this varied little community.
As far as splitting up the group (rec.auto.sims.nascar  etc..) I would
definitely be against it. Being more interested in the road races, I
may never have actually bought Nascar2 if it was'nt for all of the
hype from you guys. And look what I would've missed!

So thats my .02 pesos,

ps: What if they came out with a supercool Hydroplane/ Offshore Racing
sim? I wonder if that would be Completely off limits.. ha.

In practive this is an arcade sim group too. The fact is this is the
only well-travelled forum on the net that caters to driving
simulations of any kind. What would make sense to me is splitting the
groupup into subgroups for particular programs, i.e.,

rec.autos.simulators.Nascar
rec.autos.simulators.F1
rec.autos.simulators.GP2
rec.autos.simulators.Arcade

That way everyone could find what they wanted without being
overwhelmed by what they don't.

Funny....I thought it was also.  But, every time I have posted, asking
honest questions, I have got no replys.  So much for folks helping one
another.

Well, it does seem that we have strayed from the original concept of
r.a.s. (actually we never really lived up to the original charter).  But
there seems to be fewer and fewer people willing to help out users with
questions.  Are we getting so competitive that we can't share what we've
learned about driving our sims?  I've tried to get feedback on the
concepts of setting up a CART car for ICR2.  At least when I asked about
Long Beach I got 2 replies.  But, there seems to be a dearth of posts
dealing with the finer art of sim racing.  I just assume that no one
wants to share their secrets.  Or we are too busy fussing and whining
about this and that and don't have time to share?

R:

I know where you comming from. But at the sametime the helping out
others becomes a burden. I've helped out several. Eric's helped out
hundreds. What I like to see is when you help other out that they then
turn and help out several other for a while. How many times can I
answer to What is Rendition? Or my Thrustmaster is acting up?

After 10 times you'll have to catch me in the right mood thereafter.
It's those people you help out sometimes they just run along and never
help others out. They just get help.

Maybe we can start some type of service plan for maoney? :)

Jullian Data has the most useful little sheet for setting up any type
of racing car. It's a must. You can do the leg work on finding it.

Funny, this is the only post from you I have currently.  What kind of
questions have you been asking?  If they have been the same old stuff
like "What is rendition?", then I can understand your lack of replys.
Before anyone asks any questions of any newsgroup, they should be
courteous enough to check DejaNews for their answers first.

A lot of times people could help themselves if they just took a little time
to scan the posts to see if their questions haven't already been covered in
the last few days.  But it seems like society nowadays is set up for the
instant fix, or "I want mine now and want to do as little as possible to
get it."  I personally enjoy trying to help people with fairly unique
problems who have similar systems as mine--usually by email.  But people
who have problems that can be answered  by reading the directions, as far
as I'm concerned, need to do just that.  Along the same lines, just how
much trouble is it to type "http://www.3dfx.com", for example, or do a
search for "Rendition"?  I'm sure some legitimate problems don't get
answered, but we could all help each other out and cut down on the volume
by trying to take the time to dig up some already posted help first, before
posting ourselves.

Nope, we're all over on Compuserve. What a refreshing change it is to be
able to talk about _racing_ and generally having a good time than the
usual fare in this ng ;-)

Isn't gp2 an F1 sim?

I think if there is a split in the group, it should be between open
wheeled cars, and non-open wheeled cars.
