I've posted this on other forums - hope you enjoy it.
The Stages of GPL ***ion
Stage 1 - You hear about this “game”. How could everyone
rave so much? Never mind, you know that all gamers think that their's
is the best.
Stage 2 - You see some screenshots from Papyrus. Hmm, doesn’t
look too outstanding.
Stage 3 - You get it or try it out. Get in the car and accelerate and
-- wham, the rush and sound of simulated speed is intoxicating. You
almost feel the chair you are sitting in being pushed from behind.
Stage 4 - You enter the first turn and MERDE, what do we have here?
Ice on the track? Or maybe we were going too fast? What the hell kind
of game is this that is so hard and frustrating?
Stage 5 - You realize that it isn’t a “game” at all,
just like everyone else was saying. It requires patience, steady hands
and feet and nerves of steel - well maybe a cup of coffee before going
out will do. Like that girl I once had a crush on, it belongs to no
one and no one will master it. Some come close for sure, however, and
maybe you will too, after thousands of laps. It is like nature - you
don’t control it, you learn to work with it.
Stage 6 - After getting used to the powerful cars with wooden wheels
and poor braking power and get improved lap times, you walk around
with wide eyes, and try to spread the gospel according to Papyrus. You
have joined our golden community. Welcome, Pilgrim.
Stage 7 - OK this game rocks. Seven great cars and 11 unbelievably
dangerous and challenging tracks. Wait just a darn minute - there are
updates for the cars, dashes, tracks, add on tracks and utilities
which add so much dimension to an already great experience. This is
just going to blow my mind. Oh, wait there it goes. My brain just blew
up.
And somewhere out in the distance someone else is approaching Stage
1………
