Actually, IRC is D3D and the R3D is utilized -- albeit not very well
IMO. After screwing around with the different video options I found a
setup that actually ran on my computer -- then the damned thing locked
up. I tried downloading a patch from Europress.  It's a patch for AMD
chips and even though I've got a Pentium 200, the patch was supposed to
fix Pentium lock-ups and things as well.  Guess again. The damned thing
still locked-up my computer.  Oh well, it was back to the store for a
store credit which will be used towards NFSIISE or TD4 next weekend. The
game was decent enough when it ran, though, so keep trying different
video setups. If it doesn't lock-up you're computer, then you'll
eventually find a setting that you can live with.

Does IRC support 3Dfx or not. Once installed, it switches the Righteous
card on & off around 5-8 times. Then, when you go into the visual option
screen, it has defaulted to 8 bit non-accelerated graphics. Remembering
that the manual trumpets about the game automatically configuring the
game to get the result. Surely that would mean using 3Dfx? You can, of
course, change it to 16 bit accelerated here. The main reason I'm asking
is 'cos, this is the first 3Dfx title I've had that ran so poorly on my
machine. I've had to turn some of the options off. As I said, this is
the first time I've needed to do that with a 3Dfx game. The manual is
useless regarding 3Dfx and it doesn't even say it supports it on the
box.

Any opinions,

3dfx start always plays 3dfx animation logo (3dfx symbol turns around,
which itself uses 3dfx to display it). If you don't see this it probably
doesn't use 3dfx hardware.

The game manual should tell if it supports 3d hardware (and which
types).
Usually the performance difference between non-accelerated 3d and 3dfx
is
so big that you notice.

1.  I need yours times in IRC. Thanks in advance.
2. Does anybody know something about GP3?
3. How much faster is K6 166 after tune it to 187,5 (75MHz*2.5). Please
don't said 21,5 MHz. Is it a difference in IRC or GP2 (how much, is it worth
it?)
4. Is any realistic rally(not racing) sim anywhere (one drive, one crash)?

Thanks in advance

IRC does not support 3D cards, but the next game will.  I also used to
run in on a P120 with a 4meg Stealth 64 with all of the options turned
on...was very impressed with the game.  I must have spent a good 5 or 6
weeks playing it every night.

In that case, I'd like to amend my post to 'seems to be running very well
with Videologic 450 - possibly due to being kept warm by redundant Monster
3D ...

You're absolutely sure about this - for IRC, not NetQ RAC?

My R3D clicks about six or seven times before I see anything on the screen!!

Are you talking about the International Rally Championship that was recently
released by Europress as a follow-up to Network Q Rally?  If so, then I beg
to differ about the 3D card support.  I have an Righteous 3D (sitting
alongside a Mystique) and IRC supports it quite well.  There's fogging and
bi-linear filtering and all-in-all very fast very nice graphics (although
these do slow down quite a bit when you're driving a foggy nigth course with
heavy snow and each car is generating its own lighting!).

I *think* - but don't quote me on this - that there is native 3dfx support
but you can force the card to use D3D by editing a configuration file.
Haven't tried this yet to see if it makes a difference but will hopefully
get a chance tonight.

Cheers ..... Pete

Yes, IRC does support Direct3D (after a lot of tinkering, however).  On the
downside, the game does tend to slow down when (this may sound weird) playing
a night stage!  It seems that the game still draws all of the background,
blacks it out and then has to calculate for the light sources coming from the
cars' headlights and tail lights.  Not very efficient if you ask me.  Of
course I could turn off the head lights on other cars option :-)

Seems to be running fine with Diamond Monster 3D. Not great with all
options on but then machine is only a P120.

I'm sure that I heard my R3d click when the games starts. Have to check
though, haven't played it for a while.

Are there any Direct3D setup hints or tips you could pass on as a result,
or was all the tinkering specifically related to your machine setup?

Just to make sure everyone's on the same page here, there are two
different games made by Europress.

Rally Championship (also known as Rally Challenge overseas) was their
first game and does not support D3D (unless there is some workaround
that I haven't heard of).  International Rally Championship, their new
game, *does* support D3D.  So far it's been released everywhere in the
world except North America, but you can order it direct from Europress
UK.  They got mine to me in only 4 days for 15 pounds shipping.  The
game runs very nice in D3D mode, but unfortunately does not have a
***pit view and therefore loses all the cool windshield wiper effects
from the first game.  Still fun though.
