How many of you haven't found yourselves in a situation like this:
You are on the 17th lap in this very intense race in GPL
(who am I fooling? what race isn't, in GPL...),and you are actually
not last ..the air is very tense, and you have no need and no possibility
to slow down or quit......this time might actually be the one,you think......
then suddenly some family member come barging through the door
and demands attention for help with deciding on where to go on the Sunday
picnic
or what to have for dinner, what to do with the mess in the garage etc....
...your thought flicker away from the race for an instant ,and
the next thing you now you are wrapped around a street lamp in Monaco
or similar.....DAMN,now you have to start all over again.......
Wouldn't it be nice if there was some mechanism that made it possible
for you to recieve the messages of those family members in a less
intrusive way,or at least get notified that they wanted attention...
but where should you get the info?
Well,we already have a proven mechanism in the game
(aaaah! I said the "g-word" !) for communicating info to the drivers, namely
our old and trustworthy pitboard!
Let's say you had your home computers wired in a network,
and you had icq on all those computers....then a small add-on
for GPL could be hacked ,that interoperated with icq.
Now,when there was a family member who wanted you attention while
you were racing, all he/she had to do was to go to one of the other computers
in the home and send a short msg to your computer, and it would come
up on your pitboard the next time you passed the pits,so you could
have the possiblity to respond to the message in proper way.
Of course ,this hack could also be extended with an email
or PCS interface for cellular phones,so you could be available even if you did
not
have a second computer in the home.......
;-))))))
No,I am not ***ed to GPL.
I can quit whenever I want.....I just don't want to !
