Phoned Game today (uk retailer) who said the release date is now been put
back to the 12th July, I think this is to correspond with the the British
Grand Prix as I think it's on the same weekend. If so Iam very pissed off,
why not just release the game instead of all this PR shit.

I just called Microprose UK 01454 893900 and they said "it will be out
at the end of this month Sir" I then said I heard it was put back to
july the 12th and he said "I far as we are concerned it was the end of
this month". Could still be the 27th, 28th.

I phoned Microprose Yesterday, and they said it should be the end of the
month, although they couldn't confirm it !!. I find it quite amazing,
that for a product that has now been produced (CD Mastered etc), that
they cannot give a definate release date. They appear to be treating
their customers like rubbish.

As for releasing it near the British GP. Silly. Most of us will
probably be too busy watching it, to buy and play the game (second
thoughts, we probably are that dedicated). There is no point to delaying
the release, unless their administration is completely incompetant and
***ed up delivery schedules etc (IMHO).Why start a new marketing
campaign for that 12th July, when June 28th has been known for 2 months
!!!. Maybe they should get a decent advertising agency.

Unfortunately the customer service level in the computer software
retail/production industry is very poor, and Microprose just bear that
out.

Anyway, as you can tell, like everybody else, I've been waiting for this
games for ages. Maybe Geoff should consider changing his allegience to
*** or EA (although WC III was really late and not that good !!).

I've just spoken to HMV, and the games manager there was really annoyed,
as he had started to produce posters for 28th June release. This
Wednesday, he had rung Microprose, and they had said "oh yeah, its been
put back to the 12th July". I rang Microprose and hour ago. Got the
usual "end of month story". I then related to him the above story, and
his attitude was less than friendly "We've still got problems, it will
be out with 2 to 3 weeks !". Thanks Microprose

        Geoff Crammond - Genius
        Microprose     - Sad ! (IMHO)

Annoyed

my information is also that it has now been put back to July 12th -
i.e. British GP weekend. Will this game be outdated before it is
released !

ARRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!

This is just beyond a joke. Why don't Microprose just say "Ok, we've
got a problem. The game will be out when it's out" instead of
repeatedly breaking the "yes, it WILL DEFINITELY be out on [insert the
date of your choice here]" crap.

(mutter mutter)

To be fair to MPS, they have never actually ever promised a release
date, though they have mentioned dates they would like to release on.
Going back to my Compuserve logs, here is a quote from them last
month.

Hey, thanks for that really definite and informative answer that
clears up everything. <-- insert emoticon for sarcasm here

But, some feedback as to **why** there are all the delays would be
nice - even a "we need another month to do: compatibility testing /
speed optimisation / sitting on our arses doing *** all while
pissing off the customers".

John Wallace of Sim Racing News is testing Bizzare's F1 this weekend,
so a good write-up and a release date earlier than GP2, and I'm off to
*** for a shiny new Playstation.

And I've heard that 12 July looks good for F1GP2, but I also heard
Sept 95, Xmas, Jan, March, May and June too from the same sources.

Yers, now that is a sensible policy isn't it. Of course, your average
punter might get a tad confused when told that they'd like to release
the game on, say, June 28th 1996. When said date passes they say, we'd
now like to release it on July 12th 1996. Or August 1st 1996. Or when
Hell Freezes Over, 1996.

And what about those magazines which had "exclusive" reviews of the
game... will they now re-review it (6 months later) to include all the
extra features and other things that weren't in their "review copy"?
And what of Microprose for actually giving them a review copy when the
game still isn't out? Bah.

(pass the humbugs)

Wow, what forsight! We should re-write the planning texts given to
managers.

I wonder why Geoff is being quiet... on the microprose web site the
"message from Geoff" still babbles on about hoping for a
soon-after-xmas-95 release. It must be really difficult to update web
sites with recent information (sarcasm)

:(

If I was a betting man, I'd say the game *is* ready; it's a corporate thing
that's keeping it from shipping.

In the newest issue of Computer *** World, there is a fairly lengthy
article about SH/MicroProse and the problems they're having...rumours of
bankruptcy seem to be false at least, but there seems to be some stuff going
on about the Spectrum HoloByte name being completely replaced by the MP name,
and how staff are in a panic about layoffs.

Sid Meier is leaving MP as soon as his contract is up.

There is also some discussion about MP management (US) holding back features
from games (like Civ II) for unknown reasons.  Civ II has no multiplayer
option, and apparently it could have been easily implemented by the release date.

I only hope that this bureaucratical ***stays out of the UK division.

Neil

p.s. It's looking like F1GP2 might be the last SH/MP game I ever buy...or have
the opportunity to buy....if it makes it to the shelves.
