Actually I get better fuel mileage than the AI at most tracks. I usually
can get 1 lap more per track(sometimes 2).

Is it just me or does the AI always get better fuel Consumption than the
player in SCGT?

I'll second that.

Are you doing anything special to get better fuel consumption (i.e. short
shifting, taller gears)?

I agree.

I used to run 15 minute races at Mosport. I would barely make
it on fuel. One race I was out of fuel on the last turn before the
pits. Other races I would make it on fuel. I noticed that when
I spun out allot, I would race the engine trying to get back on
the track. I think this is burning up quite a bit of fuel. I finally
went to 20 minute races and think everyone has to fuel. But
since I always start in the rear, the best I have done is 4th so
I am not 100% sure the leaders pit. I am guessing they do.

Also this is with fuel & tires set to 3x.

I think you'll find that if you upgrade your car more your fuel consumption
will suffer. If you keep winning and spending all your money on the car you
will end up with a much faster but thirstier car! The AI cars only get to
spend their winnings which won't be as much as you if you come first all the
time.

Turn up the difficulty, lose a few races and see what happens.

If you want the details of the games working look for  Prima's Official
Strategy Guide by Melissa Tyler and IMGS, ISBN number 0-7615-2056-2. I got
mine from Amazon and IMHO is what should have come with the game. There is a
lot of wasted time on the playstation version but I suppose it will grow up
soon.

Oh and one last thing SCGT only appears to be available in PC World, my
local Game store said they had a copy but don't seem interested in getting
any more, I got mine from EB.

Just for the record. I am running at 3X tire and fuel, and with zero
modifications. A stock GTQ Porshe. I'm not sure if that would have an
effect but it might. Like Andi said in another post. If you modified it,
it be a thirstier car. I don't plan my gearbox around my fuel mileage,
just for cornering, and exiting. I try to keep shifting to a minimum.
If  I can keep my shifting between 4th and 5th for most of the race. I'm
happy. Every now and then I have to go down to 3rd for a hairpin or
something, but I try to set my *** up for limited shifting.

I also noticed the fuel consumption rate changed depending on the car I was
driving.  If I remember correctly, the AWD BMW got the best fuel economy.
Don't quote me on this cuz I may be remembering this backwards but
experiment and you should notice a difference between different car models.

I think that if you get the computer chip upgrade it improves your mileage
but, I haven't tested the theory yet. does anyone know for sure??
