I like the idea of proper telemetry to analyse my failure to be on the
pace in ICR2, but I can't get EditRpy to work.

Downloaded it from the Pits, and all seems fine until I try loading an
ICR2 replay when it bombs out with.....

Assertion failed: cp, file CARSET.CPP, line 60
Abnormal program termination-- Please be patient -----+

                         |  Reading replay file       |
                         |                            |

Anyone else had this?

Anyone any ideas what to do about it?

Cheers!

I've had the exact same problem, i also e-mailed the guy who made it but as
yet i haven't had a reply, i downloaded it from the pits a couple of times
as it did say that it worked with icr 2. Let me know if anyone gets the
answer to it.

Have you got version 2.6 from The Pits?

It could well be that your telling the program that you've useing
version 1 replays from Indycar.

To read a replay from Indycar2 you have to lie to the program and tell
it that your using Nascar, as the file formats are the same.

If it asks what track and its not shown, then lie!

Natch!

I was.

I have.....now

JJ> If it asks what track and its not shown, then lie!

Did that as well.

Thanks for that.....not sure that it's clear in the instructions.....but
perhaps I didn't read them properly. "When all else fails.....RTFM!!!"

All working now it seems. Got a huge text file out from a couple of
laps.

Me thinks I need an evening with a spread-sheet program to make sense of
these......unless someones's already worked those out as well already?

Cheers!

Are you sure the version downloadable from The Pits IS 2.6???

I had tried to download it 67723 times from The Pits main site but it always
stopped downloading after a few kilobytes. Then I tried to download it from
the US Mirror and got it on the very first try. And I had the same problem
as Toby. I looked at the About window and it said that it is version 2.1
(or 2.0), it was NOT 2.6 as it was supposed to be)!!!

EditRpy that supports ICR2 can be found on didnt.doit.wisc.edu.

Jed, maybe you should look at the editrpy.zip that is available at The Pits,
is it really version 2.6?

EDITRPY V3.0 is available via anonymous ftp from didnt.doit.wisc.edu
in the directory /PublicFiles/Racing/ICR/Editors/editrpy.zip

This version now understands ICR1, NASCAR, and ICR2.

You might try this version and see if it works any better.  I've sent
a copy to Jed so thePits should get updated in the near future.

Brad Morgan has just sent me version 3.0 that supports Indycar 2
proper.

I'll be uploading it tonight.

I'm not sure what you get if you tell version 2.6 that your replay is from Nascar, but I can assure you that the Nascar and Indycar2 replay formats are not the same.

Version 3.0 is needed to support Indycar2.

It's funny to be telling the author of his program what it does, but I
was running Watkins Glen last night in IndyCar, and I wanted a replay.
So I copied editrpy.exe (version 2.6) to e2.exe, made a new e2.ini and
then told it that I wanted to use NASCAR as my simulator, with d:\icr2
as my "nascar" directory.  It worked!

Well, even the author of the program can be wrong!  I went back and
checked (should have done that before my previous post).  The ICR2 and
Nascar formats are the same (with minor differences in how certain bits
are interpreted).  It's been a long time since I worked on this, and for
some reason I was sure that the formats were different.

So, all those of you who have been using pre-3.0 versions of Editrpy
for ICR2 are not hallucinating.  :-)

Of course, using ICR2 replays of ICR tracks by specifying NASCAR as the
simulator (and providing no track name or one of the NASCAR tracks) will
get wrong lap times/speeds.  This is because Editrpy needs to know the
precise track length (in Papyrus units) to compute the correct lap time.
