Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the shift sound in GPL? The ker
klunk?

Now that I have an Act-Labs shifter, it provides the sound when I shift
(a Real Life ker klunk, that is). Unfortunately, GPL provides the shift
sound about .25 sec later also.

Grateful for any suggestions,

MRSisson

Simply open up the sound.dat file (using Winmip, for example), open the
appropriate .wav in Sound Editor and reduce the volume to zero.  Then save
it.

It's GEARSHFT.WAV.  Let me know if you don't have a sound
recorder/editor, and I'll send you a 0-volume WAV to blank it out.

Thanks for the speedy replies!

All done, no more shift sound supplied by GPL.

For anyone wanting to do this and not being sure of what to do, this is
what I did :

Downloaded an effects package off of the Pits. Extracted just the
'gearshift.wav' to the GPL sounds directory. Used the sound recorder
utility provided with Windows (Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment).
Loaded up the wave, then decreased the volume repeatedly. Saved.

Again, thanks for the help gents.

you could look to different games for a totally new sound i pulled one
of the turbo bangs off of rally champ. some may think its out of place
but i'm quite happy with it. and as a bonus, if you match the rpm with
the gear speed, little or no noise will occur (the games like that any
how but sounds cool my way).
