OT: no popup utility?

A couple of months ago someone posted here about an utility that
killed all those anoying 'and now a word from our sponsor' pop-up
screens while surfing. Anyone know what it was called and where to
find it?
And yes, I tried Google.. :)

I use Pop Up Killer, a handy program that resides on the taskbar as you surf
. Has some good features and has certainly worked OK for me. Go to
http://software.xfx.net/utilities/popupkiller/download.htm to find out more
about the latest version.

I use http://www.popupstopper.net/ which works like a charm for me. Stops
*all* popups and new windows. You can enable/disable the program by
double-clicking the tray icon, and disable the blocking for a single click
by holding ctrl or shift whilst clicking. Very nice.

Thanks, I'll give that one a try. I tried the other utility but that
program doesn't seem to work, I still get the adds, allthough the
popup windows are blanc now. But that still means I have to manually
close those empty windows each time I click on a pictur.. on a
newspaper article.

I tried the one Jens recommended and it works brilliant, you can turn
on a warning sound if a site wants to show a popup screen - everytime
when I hear that sound I have that great 'forget it you bastards, NO
POPUPS ANYMORE ON MY COMPUTER!' feeling :)
But for the rest I'm quite normal.

Will it also remove banners/ads and other irritating stuff?

As long as the banner is showed in a popup menu, yes you won't see
them anymore. It simply blocks -every- popup meny. Having the warning
sound on can be handy, since some sites show information in a
popup-screen (like www.bhmotorsports.com for example). In that case
you simply keep the shift-key pressed while clicking on an url, or you
temporarely disable the no-popup utility by clicking on it on the
taskbar. Simple and very effective utility. No more irritation while
visiting www.alphaf1.com :)

Cool, works the same as PopNot.
I had trouble finding one that I liked, as many of them did not have a
hotkey to allow the popup. As well, some of them would not allow a link
to open in a new window like some websites are configured to do.
