NASCAR TV coverage in CANADA?

by Zi » Fri, 26 Apr 1996 04:00:00

TSN = The Sports Network in CANADA (partly owned by ESPN)

I am not happy with TSN's coverage of NASCAR WINSTON CUP RACING.

I view TSN frequently (~ 15 to 20 Hrs/week) and it appears TSN is  continuing to treat
NASCAR WINSTON CUP RACING as a secondary sporting event. ESPN continues to provide
LIVE coverage of  NASCAR WINSTON CUP RACING. Not forgetting CBS, ABC and TNN.
An example of this is Sunday April 28th at 1:30 EST.    This is a very popular motor sport
across North America. I do not believe you are providing TSN viewers with good coverage of
major sporting events, for example, Sunday April 21st the NASCAR WINSTON CUP RACE at
Martinsville. It was scheduled as a Live broadcast both in the TV guide and in the TSN season
schedule. There was no explanation when the sportfishing program came on, of any change in
programming.

I do not want to argue over what is more popular ((NHL Pittsburgh vs Washington or
NASCAR WINSTON CUP RACING LIVE at Talladega Super Speed Way)) or the
commitments TSN has to its sponsors. Although, would it be TSN's policy to show a major
sporting event later the same day taped or three day's later at a tenth of the cost for the purpose of
profiting at the expense of its sponsors and dedicated viewers ?  An example of this kind of
deception to its viewers  and sponsors occurred April 21st. I wonder what the ESPN sponsors
would think of this kind of broadcasting policy. Not forgetting TSN sponsors like Labatts,
Molsons, Keloggs etc...

I would like TSN to show the same commitment to major sporting events like NASCAR
WINSTON CUP RACING as ESPN does. If TSN can not provide its viewers with major
sporting events like NASCAR WINSTON CUP RACING then it is obvious TSN2 is definitely
required !

Sig
