I just bought a Mad Katz PC, brought it home and ran GP2 for a few
hours, and then brought it back and swapped it for a T2. In this case,
you really do get what you pay for. The angle of the console is wierd,
and it sits really high, making it feel like you're driving a truck. The
wheel action is ok, but much lighter than the T2, and the tracking is
not quite as precise. After about 2 hours, I could feel the hub getting
a bit loose. I'm sure that if my kids ever got hold of this thing they'd
tear it apart. The measly 90 day warranty did little to reassure me of
the unit's quality. That said, the buttons on the wheel are extremely
cool, even if you're paying for a handfull of gratuitous controls
(what's with the gamepad?), and the pedals are superb, far more solid
feeling than the T2 (that's the pedals, not the pedal housing). A bit
too big to comfortably heel-and-toe, but big enough and wide enough to
left-foot brake, as Alain Prost suggests that we all do.
What's the bottom line? I still suck at GP2 with either wheel (for now
:)), but I'm having way more fun with the T2. My best at Interlagos with
the Mad Katz was 1m20.1xx; after about 10 minutes with the T2 I ran
1m18.2xx. Judge for yourself.
